April 17, 2007 (Press Release) --
Reston, VA, April 9, 2007 – Noblestar, an IT Management Consulting firm, announced today their continuing support of the Annual District of Columbia Mathematics, Science and Technology Fair. On March 17th, 2007, Noblestar gave awards at the 61st Technology Fair which was held at McKinley Technology High School in Washington, D.C.
Noblestar feels strongly about encouraging and promoting excellence among the next generation of technologists. At the Science Fair this year, Paul Opalack, Founder and Chairman of Noblestar, observed and judged the entries in 14 science and engineering categories. The students were from public, private and parochial schools in the District of Columbia. After reviewing the entries by contestants, ranging from 6th graders through to 12th, Mr. Opalack awarded three prizes. Participants were judged on creative ability, scientific thought, engineering goals, thoroughness, skill, clarity, and teamwork when applicable.
The Grand Prize and $1000 went to Nam Nguyen, a 9th grader from McKinley Technical High School, whose project was entitled, “Cloth Bags in Flood Fighting.” Lamara Perry, a senior at McKinley Technology High School, was awarded $500 and First Prize in the senior division for a project entitled, “Cellular Morphology of Giardia.lamblia in the absence of Actin.” Lastly, Sibhat Hagos, a 7th grader at Alice Deal Junior High School was awarded $200 and First Prize in the junior division for a project entitled, “Comparative Study on Sound Barriers on Highway Traffic Noise.”
Mr. Opalack commented, “It is a very rewarding day. You cannot believe how excited and earnest the kids are, or how hard they worked on their projects. All of Noblestar’s winners followed the Scientific Method closely, and added to the world body of knowledge.” He continued, “It made absolutely no difference to me whether the project was done with sophisticated equipment donated by an organization, or with stuff cobbled together from the student’s kitchen. What counted was the science.”
