Integration with Unicenter NSM Provides IT Operations Staff With Unified View into Performance of Critical Business Services
For_Immediate_Release:

April 17, 2007 (Press Release) -- ISLANDIA, N.Y., April 16, 2007 – CA (NYSE: CA) today introduced an advanced performance analysis and diagnostic tool for its Database Management solution that enables administrators, from a single window, to monitor both real-time and historical performance metrics for all databases distributed across the enterprise. CA Database Management is a comprehensive solution which delivers an integrated set of technologies that enable best practices for managing complex data infrastructures across database design, modeling, performance, administration, and backup and recovery.

The new performance analysis tool, CA Insight Database Performance Monitor for Distributed Databases, features a new database Quality-of-Service index that synthesizes multiple key performance indicators and presents the status of each database as a single, color-coded and numeric indicator. This intuitive performance tool enables IT staffs to quickly determine which, if any, of the various databases across the enterprise require immediate attention.

From within CA Insight DPM for Distributed Databases, users also can drill down from the high-level view to ascertain specific database server conditions such as locking, inadequate free space, I/O bottlenecks, high CPU utilization, and inadequate memory. Through its integration with CA's browser-based, multi-database administration tool—CA Database Command Center—CA Insight DPM for Distributed Databases enables customers to address potential performance issues before they affect the business.

With the new releases, CA also delivers the first phase of its database performance management integration strategy. IT organizations can now gather performance information from databases across the enterprise and deliver that data to CA Unicenter Network and Systems Management. Organizations can also gain an enterprise-wide view of database performance with other technologies in the IT infrastructure, and IT staffs can correlate database events to optimize availability and ensure end-to-end performance of critical business services.

CA plans to make the same database performance data available to its network and application performance management products—eHealth, SPECTRUM, and Wily Introscope.

"By providing database performance metrics to network, systems, and applications management teams, CA is helping to break down the old silos of IT and unifying enterprise IT management," said Scott Kane, senior vice president at CA. "It also demonstrates CA's commitment to extending the value of investments our customers have made in the various management technologies we have acquired."
