Papuan workers walk off from US mine in colony of West Papua.
A West Papuan union calling itself the "Ring of Papua" has announced over 2000 Papuan workers of the Freeport Mine have walked out Tuesday 17th April to attend a public rally in central Timika to highlight racial prejudice and disrespect for indigenous people by the Freeport McMoRan mining giant.
The group calling themselves Ring of Papua will present their demands to the Indonesian authorities in Timika today Wednesday 18th April.
The workers are demanding Jim Bob Moffett head of Freeport come to Timika to address their demands.
Other sources confirm workers walked offsite at 5pm from Tembagapura and the Indonesian military have tightened security at the mine site.
