April 18, 2007 (Press Release) --
Hector Galan, a film and TV producer from Texas, will assist Burns with the 14-hour series, which has already been produced and is scheduled for release in September.
Burns and PBS President Paula Kerger announced Galan's hiring Tuesday during a meeting in Washington with members of Hispanic groups, members of Congress and other public TV officials. Galan also attended.
"I feel like we listened, had a fair exchange and are moving to a win-win, positive solution to the problem,'' Burns said.
''It's fantastic,'' said Galan, who produced the 1996 series ''Chicano! History of The Mexican American Civil Rights Movement'' for PBS.
About half a million Hispanics are believed to have fought in the war, and 15 were Medal of Honor winners.
Holding a basketball, Clyde Drexler moved with astonishing grace. Holding a lady, not so much.
And so, on Tuesday the buzzer ran out on the NBA great's "Dancing With the Stars" ambitions. Sent home by viewers, Drexler assured host Tom Bergeron that he already has "a tee time set up for next week."
The next one out could be Paul McCartney's ex, Heather Mills, who took a spill Monday but recovered with speed and dignity. She joined Drexler in the bottom two.
NICOLE SPEAKS: Even if she wins this weekend on "The Apprentice," Nicole D'Ambrosio plans to keep up her education.
"I will always continue to go to business seminars and real estate seminars," the Naperville commercial broker said Tuesday at her alma mater, Northern Illinois University. "I don't know everything. Even Donald Trump doesn't know everything."
D'Ambrosio is one of four finalists vying for the "Apprentice" prize on Sunday.

PBS has hired a Hispanic documentarian to help filmmaker Ken Burns with his upcoming World War II series, which had drawn complaints for failing to include the contributions of Hispanics.
