Heading into Earth Day, Biggest Weather Moment’s Significance Is Captured and Articulated by Pre-eminent Scientists and Climate Experts

ATLANTA – April 19, 2007– The Weather Channel (TWC) today announced global warming as the number one weather moment in its five-part mini-series 100 Biggest Weather Moments. Global warming will be highlighted during tonight’s 8:00 p.m. airing. Hosted by Harry Connick, Jr. and featuring weather and climatology experts, Hollywood personalities and politicians, the series chronicles weather events that have touched people’s lives via technology, geopolitics, climate and environment, sports, pop culture and, of course, destructive events.
Connick, Jr. takes viewers through 99 moments going back centuries, including the emotional jarring of Hurricane Katrina, the number two moment. Connick, Jr. reveals number one with the poignant statement, “Our number one moment is happening all around us and it has the potential to drastically alter the lives of every man, woman and child on earth.”

In addition to consulting with more than 100 Weather Channel experts, The Weather Channel conferred with world renowned scientists to validate the significance of global warming as the number one weather related event. The April 19 100 Biggest Weather Moment features experts such as Dr. Richard Anthes, President of the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR); Dr. Warren Washington, Senior Scientist and Climate Modeling Expert and National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR); Dr. Michael Oppenheimer Professor of Geosciences, Princeton University; Dr, James Hansen, NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies and Max Mayfield, Former Director, National Hurricane Center.
Biggest Weather Moments takes us back to the discovery of global warming in 1958 by Dr. Charles David Keeling, professor at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, on the island of Mauna Loa, Hawaii. Since then experts have been obsessed with the dramatic changes in climate, melting of the polar ice caps, rise of sea level, continued vulnerability to the earth’s coasts where more than half of the world’s population lives within 50 miles.
