April 20, 2007 (Press Release) --
The kids at the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital recently received a surprise visit from the beloved children’s character “Clifford the Big Red Dog,” and enjoyed a story hour, when Morgan Stanley's David Grimaldi, Global Wealth Management Group, dressed as Clifford, stopped by the hospital along with Bill Van Scoyoc, GWMG, who read stories to the kids. After the reading, the pair made bedside visits to the children and gave them Clifford dolls.
Grimaldi and Van Scoyoc were looking for volunteer opportunities and hit on the idea of pitching Scholastic, the world's largest publisher and distributor of children's books, as well as the home of Clifford, to back an initiative at the children’s hospital. Scholastic agreed to donate books as well as to host quarterly book fairs, with a percentage of the proceeds benefiting the hospital. When Scholastic added that they planned to have someone visit the hospital dressed as Clifford, Grimaldi volunteered to do the honors.
“I think that Bill and I aren't alone in looking for volunteer opportunities to give back to the community. The children’s hospital -- really a flagship of who we are in the community -- was an obvious choice,” said Grimaldi.
Added Van Scoyoc, “The hospital is making an extraordinary difference in children's lives everyday, but it’s important to keep in mind that their needs are ongoing.”
In addition, Grimaldi and Van Sycoc are organizing “Wall Street Cares” a dinner to benefit the hospital. Chief Global Economist Stephen Roach and Chief Investment Strategist David Darst, GWMG, are among those who have signed on as guest speakers.
