April 21, 2007 (Press Release) --
Rural Nevada resident Barb Johnston, resident of Pahrump, NV, is no stranger to Washington, or the process of making laws to help others. She has done this in her active past as a health advocate. Barb comes from a long history of breast cancer in her family members. Many other cancers have taken the lives of family members as well.
No one to sit by and let the world pass over her, when a need was there for help Barb went into action. In 1991 after a long battle the law in NY was passed to inform women on the side effects of breast implants. Today there is a showdown boxed framed bill of these actions and signed by Former Gov Como of N Y
After years of battles Barb saw another softer need to help those with cancer. Quilts not only are not only fiber art they offer great comfort and needed warmth when a person has chemo. Barb will tell you these are great big hugs and each made with love by a volunteer. Then need is so great for children and our Veterans with cancer, more info: www.quilts4cancer.org. Barb Johnston has LIVEDSTRONG for 25 years with cancer in one way or another.
May 16, 2007 Washington DC will see not only Barb Johnston yet 199 added delegates to press on the need for help for those with cancer. We need so much, and yet some of the best tools are free. “Trained” volunteers can teach health habits. In New York from high school, health classes, board rooms, small shops & living rooms and an N Y State Prison, yes Barb went into prison to teach BSE. Volunteers can make a difference !
Today 1/3 the lives in America could be saved WITH the knowledge of early detection, many times self exams, and treatment. Barb’s would like to see a BSE & TSE class in every high schools health class. It is step one to a simple health habit that can save a life!
Look out Washington, this “retired” senior has a lot of life and actions left, she is not only sitting quilting away her golden years.
