April 23, 2007 (Press Release) --
Business is indeed a harsh mistress. Naperville-born Nicole D'Ambrosio found out the hard way last night. The 25 year-old was fired on Sunday's finale of ''The Apprentice: Los Angeles.''
Both Ivanka and Donald Trump Jr. questioned D'Ambrosio's reasoning to hire back Tim Urban (her love interest she met while on the show) for the final task. Trump Sr. agreed with his offspring.
''Nicole, I'm a believer in romance,'' The Donald told her, ''but I'm not a believer in office romance. You love Tim. You like Tim. I think that's wonderful, but you know what? I want you to love me more. It's important because I've got to be the boss. Nicole, you're fired.''
Also fired within the first half-hour of the one-hour broadcast was D'Ambrosio's teammate Frank Lombardi. Trump faulted Lombardi for his decision to hire back his rival Surya Yalamanchili for the final challenge.
Also fired was James Sun. Trump chastised Sun for several un-aired comments that Sun made that bothered Trump.
Taking home the ultimate prize (a $250,000 a year job with the Trump organization) was Los Angeles-based defense attorney Stefani Schaeffer. She was given the choice of two projects and selected overseeing the construction of a luxury resort complex in the Caribbean.
The early friendship with Larkin proved pivotal. The author highlights the sympathies and interests (jazz chief among the non-literary ones) that brought the writers together. Leader shows the debt the novelist owes Larkin for his editing help on Amis' debut. A chapter called "Making Lucky Jim" gorgeously reveals how a masterwork was created during revisions -- strengthening the novel's basic ingredients ... and calling for the famous climax. Little wonder that the book is dedicated to Larkin.

Love conquers all. Except, of course, Donald Trump.
