Australian Business Slow to Capitalise on Web 2.0

April 23, 2007

Geeks and internet marketers have embraced Web 2.0 in their millions, but small business is yet to capitalise on the resource available to them.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) April 23, 2007 -- While geeks and internet marketers around the world have embraced Web 2.0 in their millions, it seems that very few small businesses in Australia have heard of the phenomenon, and even fewer understand what it is, or what its benefits are.

Web 2.0 is the name given to interactive sites on the internet such as MySpace, Ryze, and My Speed Business Network, and the power of these sites is their ability to provide an interface for unlimited person-to-person networking and information sharing for all kinds of purposes.

Youngsters and internet scammers and spammers have been very quick on the pickup, with a controversial claim of over 100 million users for MySpace alone, and although so far much of the activity has been by children or by scammers seeking to empty their piggy banks, clearly a whole new world has opened up for bona fide businesses seeking to take advantage of on-line business social networking and mentoring, resource sharing and alliance building, and this has global implications for even the smallest business.

Web 2.0 now enables absolutely anyone to network and brainstorm in order to gain knowledge, expertise, and leverage.

Christine Sutherland, Founder of My Speed Business Network, this week claimed that “The truth is that anyone who isn't involved in Web 2.0 is missing out on valuable business development help, while those who spend as little as 1 hour a week utilising their on-line community are reaping the benefits. No-one ever succeeded in business entirely on their own, and especially today, if business people are not part of an on-line community, to put it bluntly, they will not survive.”

The Australian site My Speed Business Network seems to have gone to some lengths to offer their members a safe business environment with free access to all the important Web 2.0 tools, such as on-line clubs, networks, blogs or forums, as well as personal support to get the most from them.

Ms Sutherland says that she wanted businesses to have free and unfettered access to a whole range of business building resources to help them “join the 21st century, instead of becoming dinosaurs”.

“The failure rate of business is huge, but we are hopeful that this can be turned around if only business will log in and use what’s available to them, whether that’s the strategic discussion forums, the resource sharing, the free classifieds, or the business networking.”
