VRS Motor Finance recover from zero to Pole Position !
Saturday's Race :
During the Saturday morning testing session the VRS Motor Finance was involved in an accident which would prevent the team from taking part any further in the event, the GTC Marcos Mantis spilled oil on the final chicane sending many cars off into the pit wall or each other, unfortunately Phil Burton was exiting the Goddards Chicane in the VRS Ferrari 430 GT3 and found himself facing the other way as the CIM Ferrari 430 GT3 of Tim Mullen exited the corner at high speed and collided almost head on with Phil in the VRS Ferrari, both cars were destroyed.
In a act of generosity and quick thinking by Hector Lestor, the owner of the CIM Ferrari 430, kindly offered VRS Motor Finance the parts of their car to enable at least one Ferrari to take to the circuit for the weekend, the team worked franticly to rebuild the car and was still working on it as the first qualifying session started and came to an end meaning Phil Burton wasn't able to set a lap time and would have to start the race from the back of the grid, the car was now finished...
Adam Wilcox quickly climbed aboard and made his way down the pit lane just in time to start the 15 minute qualifying session for Sunday's race, " I asked the team if the car was all OK and they said ' we think so ' so I put my faith in them forgot about the damage and just got on with qualifying, the car wasn't perfect but the result was, at the end of the session I managed to bag Pole Position and the only driver to dip into the 1:09 bracket all weekend, it's an amazing turn around " Commented Adam.
For Saturday's race Phil Burton took the start from the very back of the grid, and was making great progress up the order, lapping consistently and picking off the competition one by one until eventually coming in to hand over to Adam in 9th place after around 28 minutes, the driver change went as planned but then the drivers door which had been damaged in the accident earlier failed to stay shut and the VRS Motor Finance team lost 4 minutes in the pits until in finally closed and Adam took to the track but 2 laps down and from there on had a fairly un eventful race but showed the teams potential lapping faster than the lead cars.
Sunday's Race :
Adam lined up on Pole Position for the start of Sunday's race, and as the lights went green made the most of his qualifying position and headed the field into the first corner, after an initial break away over the first few laps the Aston Martin DBRs9's were clearly going very quickly and two of them were able to power past Adam in a straight line using their superior power, Adam kept in touch with the leaders and by the time he came into pit to hand over to Phil Burton was 8 seconds behind the leader " We were in a great position to win the race, but the door failing to close yet again meant only a 6th place finish. www.adamwilcox.com
