April 24, 2007 (Press Release) --
GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Cullen’s Quest, a documentary produced by i.d.e.a.s by Disney features the compelling journey to the National Football League by former Grand Valley State University Cullen Finnerty, the winningest quarterback in college football history, will premier this summer on Comcast Local.
Finnerty, who compiled a 51-4 overall record, owns more victories than any other quarterback in the history of college football. He led the GVSU to three national championships and played in four championship games during his four-year career. With Finnerty at the helm, GVSU won back-to-back national championships in 2005 and 2006, finishing each of those seasons undefeated.
The premier airing of Cullen’s Quest will be at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2007. The documentary will continue to air throughout the summer on Comcast Local.
“Cullen’s Quest is a positive story about a quality individual working hard and giving his all to accomplish his dream of playing in the NFL,” said Michael Fitzsimmons, programming director for Comcast Local. “It's inspirational television and we are proud to be able to present it to our Comcast Local audience.”
Cullen’s Quest journeys with Finnerty through the entire process, including training with his personal trainer in Grand Rapids, Mi and receiving personal instruction with Steve DeBerg in Tampa, Fl. Additionally, Cullen’s Quest brings viewers inside Finnerty’s Pro Day workout and individual workouts for NFL teams where everything is on the line and Finnerty is forced to fight through the pressure barrier in what is his best shot at directly influencing the gathering of NFL scouts.
As Cullen’s Quest unfolds, we hear from those people very important in Finnerty’s life, including his family, his agent, his college coaches, and his mentor Steve DeBerg, all of whom have developed an unyielding passion for helping Finnerty in his quest to become the NFL’s next greatest success story.
Under DeBerg’s tutelage, Finnerty blossomed, drawing favorable comparisons to former DeBerg pupils Tony Romo (starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys), Rex Grossman (starting quarterback for the Chicago Bears), and Byron Leftwich (starting quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars).
Cullen’s Quest builds to a dramatic conclusion as the quarterback lives through the anxious moments of Draft weekend and plays the waiting game to see where his future will take him.
“We are excited to work on this project and look forward to being able to help show the audience what an NFL draft hopeful goes through,” said Justin VanFulpen of Verius Sports, Cullen Finnerty agent. “We can’t wait until Cullen gets a chance to finish his quest to make an NFL roster.”
