Six Organizations Honored for IT Vision, Impact and Progress

CA WORLD, LAS VEGAS, April 25, 2007 – CA (NYSE: CA) today announced the results of its Business Service Optimization (BSO) business unit's VIP awards program. This year's winners were Oakland County (State of Michigan), Ripley, Satyam Computer Services, Scottish & Newcastle, State of Nebraska and Unilever. The winners were determined by a panel of technology industry judges who recognized these organizations for achieving excellence in IT management, for demonstrating measurable results from improved IT, and for achieving outstanding implementation success or process improvements.

Oakland County, Michigan (U.S.)
Oakland County has established itself as a national leader in the development and implementation of cutting-edge technology to better serve its citizens, communities and businesses. The biggest challenge faced by their IT department was not technology, but one of trust. Building confidence in the county's IT department was instrumental for new initiatives to be successful. CA provided Oakland County with world-class IT solutions to support their IT governance and ITIL initiatives, and supported the county with innovative education and services. Oakland County employs a host of CA products including CA Service Desk, CA Service Desk Knowledge Tools, CA Service Desk Dashboard, CA Clarity, CA SiteMinder and CA Wily Introscope, along with unique Apollo 13 ITIL simulation training. The result has been improved efficiency with a flat budget, and aligning IT and business goals across 82 county divisions, 100 local government units, 50 private sector customer and 1,300 customers.
State of Nebraska (U.S.)
The Nebraska Department of Roads (NDOR) had a need to replace its DB2 project scheduling system. The State of Nebraska Office of the CIO (OCIO) had been using CA Clarity for years to manage IT projects. With the view that a sound project management product could apply anywhere in the organization, the NDOR selected CA Clarity to make its transition even though the projects weren't IT-related. This was done while keeping more than 900 projects—which range in scope from four to 25 years—in motion and on track. Speaking to the breadth and flexibility of the solution, two unique applications of CA Clarity now exist in the same environment. Since going live in December 2006, the NDOR now has more 950 projects managed in CA Clarity with an average of 350 tasks/projects and an average project span of four years. The OCIO has more than 700 projects being managed in CA Clarity.

Satyam Computer Services (India)
Satyam Computer Services is a leading global consulting and IT services company spanning across 55 countries and with 558 global clients. With the goal to be a $2 billion USD company by 2008, it was imperative to review and upgrade its standards and processes. Satyam embarked upon the journey of implementing an ITIL-based service support and delivery framework and to be certified to ISO 20000 standards. The company also realized that service delivery would be the central hub for most of the IT and non-IT related functions, and implemented the CA Service Desk application for IT operations, and for IIS (Information Systems) and other non-IT related functions such as finance. This has helped the company to virtualize operations using common service delivery and to conform to standards. Satyam's use of CA Service Desk, CA Asset Management and CA Software Delivery has improved response and resolution times by more than 100 percent.
Unilever (UK)
Unilever is a global consumer products company with 400 brands spanning 14 categories of home, personal care and food products, The company tapped CA Clarity to help gain visibility over demand management for its 3,000 person distributed IT organization. The Project Management Office (PMO) was originally measured on time, cost, and quality, but required improved planning and IT governance processes. CA Clarity gave them the ability to measure many metrics, which they used to isolate key areas of concern. Unilever was then able to reduce these metrics to eight key performance indicators, backed up by focused training. Moreover, Unilever can view a global 'big picture' of the entire IT portfolio-while managing projects locally, and knowing that 100 percent of project plans are kept up-to-date, with 85 percent utilization and 100 percent time sheet compliance.
The Progress Award recognizes organizations that have achieved outstanding implementation success or process improvements. Initiatives in this category, even if not complete, will demonstrate excellent planning or communications and will have some project success to celebrate
Scottish & Newcastle (Scotland)
This UK-based brewer invests in growing markets and innovation to maintain their market leading position. These business initiatives have a dramatic impact on the company's IT infrastructure. During the course of a year, Scottish & Newcastle's IT team oversaw eight major projects, plus up to 150 smaller ones. The company chose CA Clarity to help ease the integration of IT systems, while continuing to drive innovation. Scottish & Newcastle has reduced time spent on project prioritization by 80 percent and manages more than 180 subsequent projects. The company can now understand how projects are linked to business objectives, and the most effective way to prioritize activities. Company officials also have a central view of internal resourcing capabilities, which make it easier to judge whether they can deliver the projects expected by the business.
Ripley (Comercial ECCSA S.A.) (Chile)
Ripley, a South American retail company, faced numerous challenges such as many IT projects exceeding their schedule and budget, not always knowing the real status of projects, a difficulty controlling the use of project management best practices as defined by the PMO, a geographically distributed team, and not having a common repository of project information. Four months after implementation of CA Clarity, all IT projects are in the CA Clarity database. Ripley now has a control panel of the status of the projects, with alerts of schedule deviations. The CA Clarity implementation didn't disturb the natural processes within the company, and users have already realized direct improvements in the quality of the information they manage. The solution is being adopted for additional strategic projects within the company, where its new distribution center will use it for new product development, and its internal controls unit will use the CA Clarity Risk & Controls Manager for compliance.
