April 25, 2007 (Press Release) --
Pain relievers that reduce swelling and discomfort are effective treatments for osteoarthritis, but certain lifestyle changes can also help alleviate symptoms.
The U.S. National Library of Medicine offers these suggestions:
Exercises -- especially water activities such as swimming -- can help maintain joint mobility.
Maintaining a healthy weight, and losing weight if you are overweight, will relieve stress on the joints.
Physical therapy can help with muscle and joint pain.
Wearing splints or braces as recommended by your doctor can help support weakened joints.
