April 27, 2007 (Press Release) --
World Commercial Refrigeration Equipment Forecasts to 2010 & 2015 for 27 countries
Global demand to rise over 4% annually through 2010
World demand for commercial refrigeration equipment is projected to increase over four percent per year through 2010, exceeding $27 billion. Demand in the Asia/Pacific region will outpace the global average, rising nearly six percent annually through 2010. China will be the fastest growing national market, benefitting from above-average urban population growth and healthy gains in fixed investment, as well as rising income levels. Above-average growth will also occur in India due to solid gains in the number of households with refrigerators and rising per capita incomes. The other developing countries of Asia and Africa/Mideast will also post strong gains, reflecting rising standards of living in the regions. Although lagging the global average, advances in the developed regions will be fueled by generally favorable economic conditions and higher income levels. Consumers in developed nations have increasingly busy lifestyles, and will consume a growing number of meals outside the home. This will fuel an increase in the number of restaurants, including in the United States. In addition, growth in the amount of frozen foods consumed is expected, creating opportunities in the retail sector. The largest national industries are those of the US, Western Europe and Japan.China has grown into a major supplier of refrigeration equipment, taking advantage not only of its inexpensive labor pool, butalso of favorable exchange rates, which have made pricing of Chinese goods especially competitive.
Reach-in, walk-in freezers and coolers fastest growing
Reach-in and walk-in coolers and freezers will be the fastest growing product groups, due to their widespread use in all of the major markets. These appliances are used by food processors, restaurants and food retailers, and are expected to have solid gains in developing regions. Display cases will benefit from the rising number of supermarkets that offer a wide variety of refrigerated and frozen foods. Vending machines will exhibit healthy growth as well, benefitting not only from rising usage in the developed world, but also from technological advancements.
