April 27, 2007 (Press Release) --
World Lighting Fixtures forecasts to 2010 & 2015
Global demand to approach $100 billion in 2010
Worldwide demand for lighting fixtures is forecast to increase around six percent per year through 2010 to US$98 billion. Gains will improve substantially over the 2000-2005 pace because of accelerating global economic growth, which will stimulate construction and manufacturing activity, the two principal determinants of lighting fixture demand. Dollar value advances will also benefit from a shift in product mix to more technologically advanced and energy-efficient products, which typically carry higher price tags. Continuing rapid urbanization rates and expanding electricity grid networks in rural areas of developing countries will also bolster sales of lighting fixtures.
Developing regions to post most rapid demand gains
The most rapid growth in lighting fixture demand is forecast for the developing areas of Asia/Pacific, Eastern Europe, Africa/ Mideast and Latin America. Increasing industrialization in these regions will lead to infrastructure-building projects and rising living standards that will benefit demand in manufactured goods applications. Countries with particularly strong outlooks include China, India, Poland, Thailand and Indonesia. Gains for lighting fixture demand in Japan and Western Europe are projected to lag the global average through 2010. Lighting fixture demand in North America will only slightly lag the global average, with the vast US market expected to register a significant recovery from the performance of the 2000-2005 period. Advances will primarily be supported by remodeling and retrofit activities aimed at improving energy efficiency of existing lighting systems, oftentimes in order to adhere to newer and more stringent government regulations. This focus will help drive demand for more expensive high-efficiency products such as electronic ballasts and high intensity discharge (HID) lighting, as well as for advanced technologies such as light emitting diode (LED) and fiber optic systems. Consequently, North America, Western Europe and Japan will remain leading markets for lighting fixtures, together accounting for 60 percent of global demand in 2010. This prominence is also a direct result of their developed industrial economies, which lead to vast requirements for lighting fixtures across both construction and manufactured goods markets.
