Global market for liqueurs, cordials and bitters - management briefing
Global market for liqueurs, cordials and bitters - management briefing : Versatile and easy to drink either in cocktails, long drinks or just 'on-the-rocks', liqueurs - or cordials as they are known in the US - and bitters remain popular with consumers worldwide.
Diageo's Baileys Original Irish Cream remains the dominant brand in the liqueur category with its nearest rival, De Kuyper, almost 2m cases off the pace. In April 2004, Diageo unveiled a new look for Baileys, which continues its progress towards the company's stated long-term target of 10m cases by 2010.
The star brand in the bitters category is the German Mast-Jägermeister owned Jägermeister. Since 2000, the brand has shown an increase of almost 67% in sales. Sales in the US in 2004 reached 0.5m 9-litre cases, rising 1.8m cases, or 38.5% on 2003. Continuing success could see the company become an acquisition target for companies such as Diageo or Bacardi who have room in their portfolios for such a brand.
This month's briefing examines the major brands within the liqueur, cordial and bitters categories. It provides global sales figures from 2000-2004, brand history and development including details of marketing and promotion, and distribution. Interviews with top company executives. The briefing also includes comments from top industry executives, providing an insight into how they make their brands a success.
