The industry has prospered since the country’s independence in 1991 and is a major contributor to textile and clothing exports - worth more than LTL3bn (EUR900m) in 2005.
The Lithuanian Apparel and Textile Industry Association has drawn up a national strategy for the industry to work towards - its objective being “to make Lithuania the best supplier of women’s woven outerwear in Europe by the year 2010.” This report offers an overview of the clothing industry and its background, the markets strengths and weaknesses and what improvements have to be made in order to achieve this objective.
