April 29, 2007 (Press Release) --
Luke Wilson needs some heat: He's in a new movie with Jessica Simpson called "Blonde Ambition," but we don't see him lip-locked with her in the tabloids trying to wrestle her away from her rocker boyfriend. Inquiring minds, you know ...
I said, 'Take this picture please! I need some heat on me.' "
Wilson has plenty of heat with "Vacancy," now in theaters, in which he and Kate Beckinsale stop at one of those creepy roadside pitstops guaranteed to end in one's own murder. He also wrote a new film, due out in May, called "The Wendell Baker Story" directed by his brother Andrew and starring Luke, Eva Mendes and Will Ferrell.
Oh, there is also that little matter of his brother, Owen, and Kate Hudson.
Q: "Vacancy" is a pretty scary movie. I don't think I even want to stay at a nice Hyatt after this, let alone some creepy roadside motel.
A: "I saw the movie last week with my brother Andrew. We had his son, Joey, with us, who is only 8. I said to both of them, 'You want to go to a screening of 'Vacancy?' [Andrew] said, 'Well, I gotta get someone to baby-sit for Joey.' I said, 'Oh, don't worry. I think he can go to the film.' Well, Joey didn't go and then after Andrew and I saw the film, it was so scary that I thought, 'What was I thinking?' Andrew was looking through his fingers at the screen a couple of times."
Q: Why are movie characters dumb enough to stay at creepy roadside motels?
A: "Oh, I know. I used to drive between Dallas and Los Angeles. When I was younger, I'd pull over and stay at those tiny motels. The minute I was in the dumpy little room, I would get a little nervous. I would think that there were probably killers on the highway. So eventually I upgraded to Motel 6."
Q: Was it fun to do a horror film?
A: "It was crazy because I'm running from a car and diving into a room. There were two crew guys sitting in the room where I was diving and they looked at me. I looked at them. I was like, 'What am I doing here? I do comedies.' "
Q: And you do get to be with a babe like Kate Beckinsale. In fact, you've had many great movie babes from Kate to Sarah Jessica [Parker] to Drew [Barrymore].
A: "I'm like Warren Beatty on paper with movie ladies. Actually, I've been pretty lucky in that I've been able to work with tons of great actresses. Sarah Jessica. Diane Keaton. Kate now. Kate was actually great in this horror film because she knew the genre from those 'Underworld' movies. I tried to follow her lead when it came to keeping up the intensity."
Q: Your brother Owen has plenty of heat with Kate Hudson these days. How is he handling all the attention?
A: "Owen is doing great. I marvel about how Owen handles the paparazzi now.

Wilson laughs. "I know. I even said that to Jessica one night. We were at a restaurant during a break from shooting and people were taking pictures of us.
