April 30, 2007 (Press Release) --
London – April 28th, 2007: A new report from Sainsbury's Bank reveals that £5 million worth of personal loans have been approved to be spent on cosmetic surgery. The report further shows that one out of five personal loans – approved for cosmetic surgery – were availed by men, averaging £6,500 per client.
The obsession to look perfect is stronger among female consumers. The desire to reach size 0 and remain 40ish has caused a boom in the number of surgery operations performed each year.
However, experts say that both men and women must understand that a lifestyle is something one lives, not something that one can buy.
Stephen Bailie – loans manager at Sainsbury’s Bank – said, “As it becomes less taboo for many people, a growing number of men and women may be looking to improve their looks and fund this with loans.”
“However these procedures can be costly and for those that take out a loan to pay for treatment, it is important to shop around for a competitive rate”, Mr. Bailie added.
According to industry experts, the number of personal loans that are being used for ‘cosmetic surgery' is increasing at an alarming rate.
They say that there is nothing wrong with joining the ‘perfection culture’. However, going into debt and risking the house to tighten the skin or to remove a bit of fat cannot be viewed as a financially responsible choice.
They believe that personal loans can be beneficial, when availed wisely, i.e., for expenses related to home improvement, wedding, vehicle, vacation, holiday season, debt consolidation, bad credit, etc.
