May 1, 2007 (Press Release) --
To News Personnel:
The Federation of Galaxy Explorers hosts its annual Galaxy Ball at the Westin Hotel, 1400 “M” Street, N.W. Washington DC on Saturday, June 2, 2007. The gala, from 6:30pm until 11:00 pm, will include an awards ceremony and a silent auction. This year Galaxy Explorers will present awards to recognize leaders and the many devoted volunteers who have made Galaxy Explorers’ educational programs a success.
Our 2007 Space Leadership Award will be presented to William H. Gerstenmaier, NASA Associate Administrator for Space Operations. Our Space Education Inspiration Award will be presented to Dr. Louis D. Friedman, Co-Founder and Executive Director, Planetary Society. Our Space Achievement Award will be presented to Gil Klinger, Assistant Deputy Director of National Intelligence for Technical Collection/Means.
In 2002, Galaxy Explorers’ pilot programs began at pilot schools in Colorado, Maryland, Washington, D.C. and Virginia, where we offered a summer space camp for 150 children. In less than five years, Galaxy Explorers has hosted 8,000 children in 25 summer camps, after school, and evening programs. We hosted an additional 15,000 children in various special events. In 2006, we expanded the program to Montana, Texas, California, and New Mexico. To help with this expansion, Galaxy Explorers has forged partnerships with government agencies, businesses, and non-profit organizations. Galaxy Explorers enjoys strong support among Congressional members and staff.
