Fabricius Remembered through Mural Print
Twentynine Palms – Action Council for 29 Palms was pleased to accommodate Kiwanis member Gerald Fabricius who requested Battle of the Bell mural print #28, the number his son wore while playing varsity football for Twentynine Palms high school in 1974 and 1975.
Gary Fabricius was an all CIF wide receiver in his 1975 season. Head coach Tom Ray and defensive coach Jerry Foster led the Twentynine Palms high school football team to two undefeated De Anza seasons those years. In 1974, the football team went undefeated until the final CIF playoff game with Paso Robles high school, which was played locally. In 1975, the football team lost in the semi final CIF playoff game against L.A. Lutheran, Gerald Fabricius recalls.
Both Tom Ray and Jerry Foster still reside in Twentynine Palms today. Gary Fabricius is a successful football coach at Newbury Park high school, and led his football team to a CIF Championship in 1993. According to Gerald Fabricius, he purchased the print because he has many fond memories of the Battle of the Bell football game and wants to give a mural print to his son this coming Christmas.
Gerald Fabricius will be able to pick up his mural print at Bowden Frame shop, which is located at 73487 29 Palms Hwy, downtown Twentynine Palms. Dana Bowden has graciously offered to carry out the distribution of all Battle of the Bell mural prints.
Action Council for 29 Palms has been working with Twentynine Palms Kiwanis for the past year to honor this annual Kiwanian football game between Twentynine Palms and Yucca Valley high schools. As intended, ever since the game’s inception, the annual Kiwanis Battle of the Bell football game has promoted friendly sportsmanship between these two high schools.
Action Council for 29 Palms, in cooperation with Twentynine Palms Kiwanis, is happy to honor this annual Kiwanian event with a mural in a day project. Twentynine children from Twentynine Palms high school will be selected to work with Master Artist Art Mortimer in October of 2007. The mural will be painted on the Twentynine Palms high school MPR building and is intended to be a constant reminder to the students of this important annual event.
