May 3, 2007 (Press Release) --
When one is selecting a diaper cake many questions should be pondered. What size diapers should it be made of? Should it be decorated with toys or decorated with flowers? Should I get a single tier, or have more of a wedding cake style with multiple tiers. What should my color choices be? Where should I get the cake from?
The answers to some of these questions are obvious but some require more thought. Of course the color selection is left up to either a boy (blues or primary) or girl (pinks or pastels) or if the gender is unknown go with a gender neutral yellow or greens. The style is basically up to your taste or the moms taste and whether this will be a gift or a centerpiece at a shower. If it is a gift at the hospital a diaper cake that is decorated with baby toys and useful items makes sense, whereas a shower centerpiece we would recommend a more decorative floral cake that more resembles a party cake.
As far as cake size anything goes. For a shower a multi tiered diaper cake that can hold it’s own on the centerpiece or present table is the perfect choice. This piece is as much as a decoration as it is a present for any mom-to-be. Also very popular for baby showers are purchasing multiple mini-cakes for individual centerpieces, again this is a nice decoration but is very functional as a gift as well. For hospital gifts and new baby gifts some of the larger layer cakes or smaller triple layer cakes work well.
Also an important consideration is what size diapers should the cake be? Because most of the diaper cake’s value is in the diapers the size should be a size that you are sure that the new baby will use. Diane Braswell, owner of Creative Gift Source, www.creativegiftsource.com, recommends going with a larger size diaper (2 or 3) rather than newborn or size one diapers. “This ensures that the baby will be able to use them. Most moms to be are given the small size diapers so it will be welcomed to get a larger size to use when the baby gets older (1-2 months).”; says Braswell. Another consideration is that many babies are so large that they can not wear newborn diapers at all (most hospitals only stock the size ones), and quickly grow out of the size ones (sometimes before mom can use all of the gifted size one diapers). Diane says that ; “At the Creative Gift Source, we found that it is the most prudent, and makes the best overall gift when you think ahead and give the slightly larger sizes.”
As far as where to purchase the cake that depends on your taste, price and overall quality. The Creative Gift Source makes many different style diaper cakes and will even custom make a cake if you had something different in mind. “We use only quality “ingredients” in our diaper cakes and carefully select each item down to the ribbon and decoration”; says Braswell. How the diaper cake is shipped should also be a consideration, all of the cakes should be tightly wrapped in clear cellophane and packed carefully with packing materials to ensure that there is no damage during shipping. Whether you decide to make your own cake or leave it to the professionals, it will surely be a hit at the shower that will leave lasting impressions.
