May 3, 2007 (Press Release) --
The University Performing Arts Centre wrapped up this spring by participating in several competitions where they won numerous awards. Besides dancing in competitions, UPAC feels performing for their local community is just as important. UPAC made several appearances this spring by performing at St. Stephens, Trinity Prep School and at the Taste of Oviedo. The highlight this spring was when UPAC participated in The American Cancer’s Society, Relay for Life. They participated in the event to honor former dance mate Lexi Matthies, who lost her battle with acute myeloid leukemia a few years ago. UPAC not only performed at Relay for Life, but also built a team who kept a member walking on the track for the entire 18 hour event to raise money for the American Cancer Society!
“We felt a strong need to honor Lexi. Lexi had such a special spirit about dancing and performing,” said Judi Freed-Siegfreed, owner and director of UPAC. “Participating in the event was incredibly special for UPAC and we hope to participate in more community activities in the upcoming months”.

With just days away from their spring dance recital, UPAC has been busy giving Oviedo a “Taste” of dance.
