May 3, 2007---Spector Travel of Boston, Established in 1989, and specializing in African travel is offering their annual Roots and Culture tour to Senegal and The Gambia, West Africa. The eight-day tour includes two nights in Banjul, The Gambia and three nights in Dakar, Senegal.
In Senegal, passengers travel by ferryboat to Goree Island's infamous slave house. In Dakar, there are visits to Independence Square, the Presidential Palace, the University of Dakar, the handicraft village of Soumbedioune, the Grande Mosquee and the bustling Sandaga and Kermel markets.
In The Gambia, the group shops for jewelry, woodcarvings and African artifacts at the Banjul market and stops at an orphan village, health center and nursery/primary school and donates clothing, medical, and school supplies that passengers have brought from America. Travelers also visit Juffureh, a village made famous by Alex Haley's "Roots."
The dates of travel are from February 16 – February 23, 2008 and cost $1599 per person double occupancy, including round-trip economy airfare from New York to Dakar, 5 nights in first class hotels, with five breakfasts, sightseeing, transfers and hotel service charges. Single rate is $1899
