May 6, 2007 (Press Release) --
See if this sounds like a flashback: A short guy in red tights, a teenage wizard, a mascara-wearing pirate captain, a big, green ogre and a chain-smoking, bald guy with an attitude. Yippee-ki-yay, the hottest movie months of the year will either do well or die hard. Will it be a season to remember? How can we forget when all the big films this season are sequels. Here's a sneak peak:
'28 Weeks Later,' May 11
Starring: Robert Carlyle and Catherine McCormick; directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.
Play it again: The rage virus raged on in the 2002 cult hit "28 Days Later," and audiences delighted in a Britain brought down by blood-dripping, zombie-like citizens. Of course, it was not an option to leave us hanging -- by not resolving if the country was ever cured of this infectious plague -- so here comes a sequel about the U.S. government going across the pond to restore order. Uh huh. Two kids stray from an uncontaminated area, and suddenly that wild look in their eyes isn't because someone took their Pods away.
Why you can't miss it: Robert Carlyle insists you won't find much scarier fare anywhere. "We don't go nuts with the CGI but instead play with your mind," he says.
'Shrek the Third,' May 18
Starring: The voices of Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, Antonio Banderas, Eddie Murphy, Julie Andrews and Justin Timberlake; directed by Chris Miller and Raman Hui.
Play it again: King Harold gets sick, so Shrek must find someone to run the land of Far, Far Away. Donkey and Puss in Boots try to convince a young King Arthur. Meanwhile, that rabble-rouser Princess Fiona gets the girls together to stop a coup led by the guy she dumped, Prince Charming.
Why you can't miss it: Well, it's Shrek. And then there is the Justin factor. We asked Antonio Banderas, sex symbol and the voice of Puss in Boots if he feels superior to his young co-stars because, after all, Antonio invented screen sexiness many years ago. "All true," Banderas says. "I look way better than Justin. Compare us. I'm far handsomer than him. No compromises on this topic. I would win every beauty contest in the world. Girls love me more. This is why I'm upset during a scene in this film where Puss is stuck in the body of the donkey. I know I'm better than that body. I wanted to get to the gym, immediately."
