May 9, 2007 (Press Release) --
The organisation e-ISOTIS (Information Society Open To ImpairmentS) participates in the European Project ENABLE which aims to improve the quality of life of elderly people and to diminish the effects of any disabilities they may face. The scope of the project is to develop an open accessible reference architecture to which subsystems and services can be added according to particular needs of elderly people and their carers. Specifically, the project will develop a personal, customised enabling system that will support indoor and outdoor activities. In action, elderly people will be able through a special designed device (e.g. a special modified mobile phone and a wrist unit) to call for help in case of emergency, to monitor the status of their health, to move independently, and to demonstrate their daily activities without restraint.
The ENABLE consortium is comprised of 9 partners from 5 European countries with an outstanding experience in different fields, but with common interest in elderly society’s issues. The ENABLE started in January 2007 and will last 3 years.
The organisation e-ISOTIS (Information Society Open To ImpairmentS) is a non-profit making organisation founded in December 2002, working with People with Disabilities, Elderly, their spouses as well as members of the ICT (Information Communication Technology) community, worldwide. Currently, its associated members represent 350.000 people with impairments, located in European countries.
The scope of e-ISOTIS organisation is to ensure that people with disabilities, elderly and their families are fully involved in the preparations and activities in line with the slogan "nothing about people with disabilities without people with disabilities". By supporting People with Disabilities and elderly, e-ISOTIS aims at assisting its members in overcoming the existing barriers and experiencing an Information Society that opens up new opportunities for development, prosperity and quality of life.
