May 15, 2007 (Press Release) --
The Americans do many things well – fast food, big budget movies and flash cars. However, making a decent cup of tea is not one of them, as the thousands of Brits who start a new life in the States every year find out. It seems that with the fashion towards eating out in the USA the availability of ingredients to cook at home with is startlingly poor.
Now all those thirsty ex-pats have a ray of hope. Little Taste of Home has been set up by a Lincolnshire couple who hope to alleviate the homesickness with a decent cup of tea. When family members in Florida asked for essential supplies to be sent over, James & Oberon Keatley decided there was a niche market for the everyday items that most UK citizens take for granted. The company was set up in early May and has been growing ever since. With an Internet site and a presence on Ebay the couple welcome emails from customers asking for the products they miss. Recent requests have included Robinson’s squash and steak & kidney pudding.
‘Emigrating to the USA is getting tougher, and let’s face it, when the going gets tough the Brits out the kettle on’ laughs Oberon. ‘People get out there and miss the little things about home – recognisable brands and a nice cuppa. We like to think our service has helped make the move more bearable for a lot of families’. The pair hope to add a villa welcome basket service to their site shortly and eventually move to the States themselves and open a shop in Florida catering to ex-pats.
