CLEARWATER, FL – May 15, 2007 – A small but revealing survey conducted by VetLocator.com show that the majority of veterinarians, 60%, feel that one or more animals they treated had been affected by the recall of tainted pet food manufactured by Menu Foods.
On April 14, 2007, VetLocator.com surveyed veterinarians to see what effect the pet food recall has had on their customers and businesses. The results of the survey show that 60% of veterinarians report treating one or more pets for symptoms related to tainted food and also show that several veterinarians treated animals with renal failure resulting in death before the recall was announced.
Additionally 62%, felt they did not receive the news of the pet food recall in a timely fashion and were left scrambling for more information when they arrived at work the morning after the recall news was announced. The survey also shows that almost all vets found out about the recall the same way the rest of us did, via the news on television.
The answers are candid and reveal a frustration with the lack of any formal veterinary emergency notification system and also show how veterinary professionals are getting their information today.
