May 16, 2007 (Press Release) --
Doylestown, PA – A software program, designed to let parents see what their kids are doing on their computer has proved instrumental in the arrest of a Pennsylvania teacher who allegedly assaulted two ninth-grade girls. The software, IAmBigBrother, was installed at the request of the girls' parents, after they grew concerned about who their daughters were talking to in chatrooms, via instant messaging, and other methods over the Internet. One of the concerned Moms contacted local Doylestown computer service experts, JunctionPC, and asked for their help. Company owner and CEO, Nick Merlino, recommended that the IAMBigBrother software be installed on the computer.
The software actually makes a record of every keystroke made, and every program run, on a computer. Once the parents were able to read the inappropriate nature of the emails, and other messages that the girl had received, they went to the police. As a direct result, a substitute teacher at the girls' school, Tohickon Middle School in Plumstead Township, was arrested, and charged with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault and criminal use of communication devices. He is awaiting trial, and, if convicted, he could face a minimum jail sentence of 5 years. He has since been fired from his job with the Central Bucks School District.
Nick Merlino, of JunctionPC had this to say, "A mother came to me worried about what was going on with her daughter on the internet. We tracked key strokes and found out there was a lot of inappropriate things going on". He explains that the kids wouldn't know the software was running because, "You set it up under the administrative account, which is the parents account, and they have no idea it's running in the background".
The software is extremely simple to use, and captures all activity on the computer. Parents can then see, at a glance, exactly what their children have been doing, and saying, over the Internet. It includes both sides of any messaging, email or chatroom conversations. There is also an option to enable the content to be viewed from a remote computer, at work, for example. Parents can literally monitor what their kids are doing, on the Internet, from any other computer connected to the Internet.
If you are concerned about your children's safety on the Internet, and would like more information on IAmBigBrother, or any other monitoring software, then you can contact JunctionPC, via their website JunctionPC.com , or by calling 215-345-8700.
