May 20, 2007 (Press Release) --
The region’s largest gathering of exhibitors and professionals from the beauty and wellness industries - Beautyworld and Wellness and Spas exhibitions were officially opened today by Raja Al Gurg, President of the Dubai and UAE Businesswomen's Council and CEO of the Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. Now in their twelfth year, the two shows have attracted around 950 exhibitors representing 1500 brands from 55 countries and the latest products and services from across the beauty and personal care spectrum.
“Over the next three days at the Wellness and Spas show, we will be showcasing the latest trends and popular treatments within this burgeoning industry; such as medical spas, aromatherapy and relaxation techniques,” says Messe Frankfurt Exhibition Manager, Susan Amin. “Medical spas are predicted to be the next big trend within the industry and could take a substantial slice of the health care market, the current regional spend of which is US$ 74 billion (AED 272 billion), she adds. “Visitors to the show will even be able to experience the benefits of spa treatments for themselves, as a specially designed fragrance from leading aromatherapy firm Aromagic will be gently wafted through the halls throughout the exhibition,” she continues.
Wellness and Spas 2007 will also be promoting health through fitness, with a dedicated sports aerobics area called ‘Pulse.’ This floor section will showcase the benefits of a good workout as an ideal way to help maintain the optimum body weight. “Obesity is a real issue for people in this part of the world,” says Ms. Amin. “Kuwait was recently found to be the world’s eighth fattest nation and statistics also show that 60% of UAE nationals are overweight. Pulse aims to show how exercise can be a fun way to help fight the flab and can be incorporated as part of a health visit to a spa,” she adds.
Miss Amin is in no doubt that the Wellness and Spas event will help to cement the city’s status as first-choice break for travellers seeking a recuperating vacation. “Of the four world class spas that were voted as being located in the Middle East by the Leading Hotels of the World group, three are to be found in Dubai,” she says. “Not only that, hotels in Dubai offering such amenities are increasing by 17% per year and by 2015, it is highly likely that there will be more than 200 establishments containing world class facilities, making the city the top spa destination in the world,” she continues.
Speaking on behalf of Beautyworld 2007, the Wellness and Spas sister show, Ms Heather Nix, Group Exhibitions Manager for Messe Frankfurt, explains the importance of having a local cosmetics and beauty exhibition of for the regional industry. “The growth of the personal care industry has been phenomenal,” she says. Last year the market in the UAE alone was worth more than AED 1.51 billion (US$414 million) in retail sales.
