May 21, 2007 (Press Release) --
PRNewswire London 21/05/07: With Online Bingo increasing momentum in the public eye the Sunday Times reports that “since last month [April, 2007], bingo players in Wales have been playing from home rather than in clubs following the implementation of the smoking ban – a trend echoed throughout England”.
Whilst this signals warning messages for offline bingo operators across the country, the option of going online is becoming ever more appealing for both players and operators. The paper added that the smoking ban is not the only reason for the increase in online bingo playing, citing a report from Global Betting and Gaming Consultants (GBGC) which shows the pace at which online Bingo has grown. Online bingo games generated gross wins of $143m (£72.4m) in 2006, a jump from $98m in 2005, and $61m in 2004.
The focus now turns towards how offline bingo operators will react when the smoking ban is introduced on July 1st. The 2nd Online Bingo Summit – Europe which takes place September 25 – 26 at the Regents Park Marriott, London will go a long way to assess the impacts of the smoking ban on offline and online operators. Confirmed speakers from The Sun, Mecca, Gala, Jackpot Joy, St. Minver and more will give their thoughts on how offline operators can take their businesses online and take advantage of the growing online space. After all, if online bingo continues to grow at the same rate, the space will be worth $188m by the end of 2007. A figure that simply cannot be ignored!
