May 23, 2007 (Press Release) --
About 7, 900 baby boomers are turning 60 years old every day in the United States. However, instead of the usual relief being felt for having reached the age of retirement, the baby boomer phenomena has changed this view into stress and despair. Today’s retirees are under more stress compared to others before them since they expect to live and work longer than other retirees of past years.
Los Angeles, California, May 21, 2007 – Nowadays, middle-income wageworkers do not look forward to retiring yet for another two full years later after they turn 65, which is the minimum retirement age.
The AXA Equitable Retirement Scope survey conducted its third yearly survey amongst retirees. The survey’s findings reveal that in between the years 2005 and 2006, stress incidence among retirees soared to 19%. These findings made stress as the top of the list in health concerns among American retirees.
Women retirees are the ones particularly hard-hit by the said health problem. Over 96% of retired females declared that stress causes a great risk in their well-being.
Other health concerns that are common among retired Americans are smoking, pollution, and fast food diets.
Meanwhile, the top economic concerns of the retirees and the present workers are having adequate income and surviving assets.
The survey also turned out with disturbing facts about some groups that fear of their coming retirement. Particularly, low –income and middle – income American workers are facing retirement with consternation. They expect not to fully retire until the age of 67 and half of them are worrying about having adequate income upon their eventual retirement.
Almost 77% of these retirees hope to hold down a salaried job, still once they retire. As of the present, only 16% of retired Americans are holding down jobs with pay.
However, AXA have come up with the fact that Americans receive the highest retirement incomes and have the capacity to save more amounts for their retirement than any other race or nationality in the world.
The AXA survey also made a rundown of a worldwide basis of retirement trends. To achieve this, they surveyed 11 countries with over 6,900 persons between 25 and 75 years old.
Conclusions was declared by the AXA Equitable that out of the 11 countries, US retirees are still the most traveled, happiest and rank first in home ownership. US workers still have the best financial condition during retirement.
AXA’s third yearly survey is a persistent effort in enhancing the awareness on issues concerning retirement.
