Sun Rises Mural Restored
Twentynine Palms – Action Council for 29 Palms is pleased to report Wayne Winiecki completed the restoration and preservation of the Sun Rises mural.
Winiecki reported the completion of the Sun Rises mural on May 22, 2007, which required uncountable hours to complete. According to Winiecki, the mural had several hundred small chips that had come about by local children throwing rocks at the wall. In addition, workers who had been building a new structure next to the site damaged the mural by leaning construction materials up against the wall and by placing excess caulking on the mural itself.
The funding for the completion of both the Desert Wildflowers mural and the Sun Rises mural came from a grant received from The Community Foundations Desert Legacy Fund back in 2006.
The reason the completion of the Sun Rises mural took so long was due to Winiecki’s desire to give the contractor, who was building next to the mural, more time to complete their project.
Winiecki also reported that only six murals still await his attention before the entire restoration-preservation project will be completed.
