May 26, 2007 (Press Release) --
The Bandon Music Festival is promising to be bigger and better this year, with a fantastic line up for 2007, announced the Festival Committee today. Annually hosted on the June Bank Holiday weekend in Bandon, West Cork, this year’s festival is shaping up to be the most musically creative so far. Now considered one of Ireland's premier free summer music festivals, organisers say 2007 will serve to encourage the promotion of Irish talent, both new and internationally established. Artists such as world famous Mary Black, home grown talent Duke Special, Meteor Award winner Director and Cork’s own Jennifer Lomasney will headline at the festival.
Acknowledged by many as a festival of traditional and contemporary music, now in its eleventh year, the Bandon Music Festival has seen over the years a host of home grown talent perform. Previous artists included Mundy, Aslan and The Saw Doctors.
Commenting on the plans for the 2007 festival Carmel Nyhan, Festival Chairperson, stated “We are delighted with the headline acts this year. There is no denying the high calibre of artists performing. We believe the mix of established, well known artists such as Mary Black with new, up and coming talent like Director will appeal to a cross section of festival goers. It certainly is shaping up to be a great weekend. Already we are witnessing a growing excitement locally over the artists, both playing on the Gig Rig and in the pubs”.
Continuing Nyhan commented “This year the festival sees a new development. We have moved away from the Guinness sponsorship and have brought on board a number of supporters locally. We are very fortunate to have the support of Coolfadda Developers, RedFM, The Evening Echo, Failte Ireland and Cork Kerry Tourism. The sponsorship we will receive this year ensures the festival will get bigger and better, for which we are truly grateful. As always there is no charge for attending the Bandon Music Festival which opens it up to a very wide audience. We are looking forward to welcoming the estimated 10,000 festival goers to our town”.
Certainly 2007 is going to see the festival reach new heights. There is a lot of excitement around the headline acts. A big draw this year is the Saturday night Gig Rig, which is sponsored by RedFM and the Evening Echo. Hot talent Director and Duke Special promises to draw a big crowd. In addition, on the Sunday night Mary Black will make a welcomed return to West Cork.
As with previous years the Bandon Music Festival will consist of two free outdoor concerts on Saturday and Sunday.
The Bandon Music Festival Committee is encouraging all to make the “pilgrimage” to Bandon this June Bank Holiday Weekend. It is certainly going to be a world class music festival. For details on artists, gigs and information on Bandon town, check out www.bandonmusicfestival.com.
