May 27, 2007 (Press Release) --
Holliston, Mass. – May 27, 2007 - When Cheryl Kauffman of Needham, Mass., decided in late 2006 to install tiles on her kitchen backsplash, the first attempt ended in a minor disaster, both aesthetically and financially.
Kauffman turned to Holliston designer Lynn Desmarais, who combined fine arts training and computer savvy to come up with a solution. Desmarais runs a design firm called Home Previsions.
Kauffman “made her decision based on a small sample,” Desmarais says. “When she saw it all over, she wasn’t happy.”
Desmarais heard Kauffman’s story. “I realized I could have saved her that trouble and expense. I developed a technique to digitally manipulate images and apply it to home decorating.”
Restoring confidence
Kauffman’s bad choice made her doubt herself. “I helped her make a decision that she was happy with, after her confidence was shaken by her first choice,” Desmarais says.
“Lynn came in to save the day,” Kauffman says. Desmarais took photographs of Kauffman’s kitchen and showed her what her kitchen would like with several different samples of tile.
The “renderings” that Desmarais creates are surprisingly realistic. “Probably the most challenging part [of my work] is color matching on the final printed image,” she says. “I try to combat that by being consistent with the paper I use” and by using high-quality inks and Pantone® reference colors.
House calls
“My service is highly customized,” Desmaraus says. “It’s not a model space or a catalog picture. It's that person’s actual home, and the changes I make to the photograph maintain a very photo-realistic feel. I strive to match lighting, angles, and scale, so that what I show the customer really is an accurate representation of how it will look.”
Desmarais also would like to help businesses market their products. She has a design degree from the University of Massachusetts.
