May 27, 2007 (Press Release) --
Pittsburgh, PA (Vyala-Arts) May 27, 2007 -- Several works of German artist Petra Voegtle will be be seen at this year's Anniversary Exhibition at the BoxHeart Gallery in Pittsburgh. This exhibition which includes only solo represented artists runs concurrently with Three River's Arts Festival and is an extension of the work that is displayed at Three Rivers Arts Festival in BoxHeart's gallery booth.
Voegtle's work has one theme in common: magic. "Our whole life is surrounded by magic and this is what I want to make the viewer see" - she says. Works that can be seen currently, explore the magic of landscapes and special places, the moments of awe when the viewer sees the wonders that are created by nature and how these moments are transformed into works of human imagination. The same applies to the "cave paintings", works that are inspired by ancient rock paintings and their symbols of life which have been painted and engraved into stone thousands of years back in our time.

Voegtle's approach to painting in particular is consciously female. "Women often think that it is necessary to compete with the male predominance. I decided to use female strengths such as sensitivity and enhanced motor capabilities for my painting: instead of working with big canvasses and heavy oil paints, I use silk, delicate paints, thread and needle for my work", Voegtle says.
Voegtle who signs her work always with "Vyala" which is an old sanskrit word, feels deeply influenced by Asian cultures due to many travels to southeast Asian countries. A vyala is a mythical catlike animal that can have different faces. Symbolically it represents the struggle of life but it also works as a protective motif.
