THE INAUGURAL IBIZA AND FORMENTERA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL COMMENCES WITH VIC SARIN'S PARTITION

The first Ibiza and Formentera International Film Festival commences in Ibiza on Tuesday 29th May with PARTITION a film by Vic Sarin and starring Jimi Mistry (East is East, The Guru)

PARTITION is an epic Indian love story set against the backdrop of the separation of Indian and Pakistan after the second world war. Mistry plays Gian Singh newly decommissioned from the British Indian Army and seeking a quiet life of farming and solitude. His peace is shattered In August 1947 when India is granted independence and a new border is drawn between Hindu dominated India and Muslim dominated Pakistan. Also starring Kristin Kreuk (Superman - The Early Years) as Naseem, a 17 year old Muslim girl who Gian takes under his protection and with Neve Campbell (Scream, Churchill - The Hollywood Years), Irfan Khan, Madhur Jaffrey and John Light.

The Ibiza and Formentera International Film Festival will screen 17 films in competition and also feature a "films in production" section, music and video as well as documentary sections including Julian Lennon's, The Gathering: Return of the Whale Dreamers.

The festival is patroned by Actor John Hurt and Directors Terry Gilliam and Alan Parker. John Hurt will discuss his latest acting role in Alex de Iglesa's The Oxford Murders and Terry Gilliam's TIDELAND will have its Spanish premier during the festival.

Films in competition:

The films are divided between six regional sections: Europe, Asia, North America, Latin America, Africa and co-productions. The winners of each section will compete against each other for the top prize, the Falcon d'or ( inspired both by the Eleanor Falcon native to the Islands as well as reminiscent of John Huston's 1941 Maltese Falcon with Humphrey Bogart.

The European section comprises Juan Carlos Falcon's La Caja from Spain, Roberto Ando's Viaggio Segreto from Italy and Cristian Nemescu's California Dreamin' from Romania.

From Asia, there will be Lee Hyung-gon's The Fox Family from Korea, Yibai Zhang's The Longest Night in Shanghai from Japan and Mani Ratnam's Guru from India.

From the U.S., there will be Steve Barron's Choking Man, Douglas McGrath's Infamous and Richard Linklater's Fast Food Nation.

Latin America will offer three Argentine productions: Enrique Gabriel's co-production with Spain, Suspiros del Corazon; Santiago Otheguy's La Leon; and Ariel Winogerad's Cara de Queso.

On offer from Africa are Laura Muscardin's Billo le grand dakhaar, from Italy-Senegal, The Amazing Grace (2006) from Nigeria directed by Jeta Amata and Salif Traore's Faro, la reine des eaux, from Mali-France-Burkina Faso.

Partition (2007), Vic Sarin Canada-South Africa-UK which will open the festival, The Moon And The Stars (2007) John Irvin Hungary – Italy with Alfred Molina and Jadesoturi (Jade warrior) (2006) by Antti-Jussi Annila co produced between Finland-Holland-China and Estonia.
