FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) May 29, 2007 --
May 29, 2007, Brooklyn, NEW YORK— The BK Style Foundation has been invited to bring their Brooklyn Fashion Weekend formula including cutting edge designers and must have swagger to participate in the Brooklyn Best Festival’s Designer Fashion Show on Saturday June 3rd, 2007 at Grand Army Plaza. Sending scores of models sleekly sashaying down the DUMBO runways season after season, and creating an upsurge in glitzy fashion plate diva’s and divo’s devoted solely to the revolutionary house of Brooklyn fashion, these designer’s represent the new, raw movement in fashion that seeks to one day revolutionize the way we all view the connection between the needle, thread, and fabric. Brooklyn Fashion Weekend (BKFW) designer’s participating in the Brooklyn Best Festival will include:
• NaturevsFuture, (BKFW May 2006) by Brooklyn born Nina Valenti sprung to life in the Spring of 2002. Featured on David Letterman, What Not To Wear, the Gilmore Girls, and General Hospital, NaturevsFuture was inspired by the designer’s belief that there is a constant struggle between nature and future, a tension between organic forces and technological ones. Valenti intertwines natural & sustainable fibers like organic cotton, organic wool, hemp, soy, bamboo, and more into her highly sought-after creations. Valenti’s designs have also been featured in the pages of Italian Vogue, ELLEgirl, Nylon, Fader, Lucky, The New York Times, Time Magazine, Time Out New York, The Daily News, The New York Post, The Village Voice & The Daily Candy, Valenti creates pieces that are inherently classic yet futuristic, and sexy with a sophisticated, and expressive edge. NaturevsFuture has been featured on stars such as Stacy London, Tina Faye, Parker Posey, Deborah Harry, and actress Lauren Graham of ‘The Gilmore Girls.
• The opulently glamorous line of Duroseau Couture (BKFW May 2006)—where the last U is for UNFORGETABLE—by infamous couturier and Haitian-born designer, Gerald Bazile. Bazile’s pieces have been featured at the BET Awards, Antonio Banderas’ film premier—Take the Lead, CBS, FOX 5, News 12, and more! Hordes of luminaries and VIP’s such as Robin Givens; The Apprentice’s Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth; America’s Next Top Model candidates Camille Mcdonald and Kheenya, Ms. Puerto Rico, and more, have draped themselves in Bazile’s line of style infused with glamorous colors and elegant textures. Duroseau Couture consists of polka dot prints, bold colors and high-end delicate fabrics, a style reminiscent of classic red carpet fashion.
• Featured in Fader, Essence, Mugshot, Juicy, and Luire Magazines, Harriet’s Alter Ego (BKFW May 2006) believes fashion should be functional. Each season, owners Hekima Hapa and Ngozi Odita, serve fashionista’s alike with unconventionally classic style, new patterns and fresh fabrics. In their new boutique location, clothing is displayed as art against a beckoning backdrop of exposed brick, grounded by hardwood floors. With their continually evolving line and boutique concepts, Harriet’s Alter Ego moves beyond outfitting and accessorizing the worldly woman and defines a signature line where fashion imitates life and Harriet’s is a way of life.
• The outrageous and vibrant line of H.O.R.R.S. (Habana Outpost Recycle Reject Shop), who participated in BKFW’s Premier Season, will also grace the BK footbridge. Conceived in winter of 2005, H.O.R.R.S. creator and co-founder Lopeti Etu, envisioned a line of reused and recycled designer-style clothing from discarded material. Etu’s eco-friendly design method creates clothing that is refreshingly unconcerned subtlety. Synonymous with colorful humor and pulsating vivacious creativity, H.O.R.R.S ingeniously transforms men’s t-shirts into women’s dresses, hoodies into bathing suits, and even bubble wrap into a carnival outfit!
• Featured in the online pages of high-profile fashion destinations such as Runway News and New York Cool, native New Yorker and Brooklyn-born designer, Joan Vacciana piloted a contemporary women’s collection that creatively boasts classic style with a funky twist, sexy flair, bold colors, and cutting edge patterns. Vacciana, who showed this past season at BKFW, creates fluid collections draped and layered with hints of sparkle and animal prints, dazzling and stunning the fashion forward and trend spotter alike.
