This was made all the more apparent when up and coming hospitality recruitment firm, Premier Recruitment, opened the doors to it’s new Princess Street location this week only to be inundated with a flood of potential applicants.
Premier Recruitment International, which specialises in recruitment for high-end establishments within the Catering and Hospitality industry, received over a hundred applications for jobs advertised throughout Manchester last week.
As Managing Director, Richard Neilson explained, “We decided to open a new office in Manchester because of the phenomenal growth in the tourism and hospitality sector that the city has experienced in recent years. In the last 5 years, tourist figures have grown by nearly 20%, which means more hotels, more restaurants, more pubs and clubs – and most importantly, more high quality staff needed across the board.”
In fact, since 2000 the number of jobs in the Greater Manchester area supported by tourism has increased by 14% and it’s this boom in tourism, and the Mancunian joie de vie, that has lead to the increasing appeal of hospitality as an exciting career prospect for many jobseekers. As one applicant said, “Even a few years ago I would have never thought of a career in hospitality but with so many new places opening up it seems like a great choice.”
