I used to wear a golf glove on my left hand only when golfing in hot, humid weather. Then, for reasons I still haven't figured out, I started wearing one all the time, even for putting.
Golfers's glove habits are as Byzantine as their swings. Some players don't wear them at all, preferring that direct contact with the club. Others use them in certain situations, usually off the tee and fairway, but shed them for "feel" shots.
Still others go through five or six gloves in a round. The Big Break's Tommy "Two Gloves" Gainey wears one on each hand.
What's that, you say? Freddie Couples doesn't wear a glove, and if it's good enough for him, it's good enough for you?
Well, I'll buy that.
Still, I don't know if it's because of performance, habit or laziness, but now I feel naked without one. No glove, no love.
There are scores of technologically advanced gloves out there. TaylorMade makes one with its own climate-control system and vented storage case. Mizuno makes one with Lycra panels. Footjoy makes one out of microfiber. Etonic has one with a "moisture management" wristband.
And SMT has a lifetime warranty glove made of New Zealand possum that costs up to $90.
I've been wearing a Bionic glove for a few months now. Bionic is a serious glove maker, manufacturing them for gardening, equestrian, fitness and driving.
The Bionic golf glove is made of cabretta leather, produced from the skins of sheep that have hair instead of wool (an oddity which no doubt gets them a lot of ribbing). It has extra padding in the palm, which is where most of my past gloves have ripped first; the one is nearly black from use but still intact.
The Bionic also has all sorts of scientific features the company says will improve your game, like ergonomically designed motion zones that provide flexibility and web zones that make the glove more breathable.
Unlike traditional golf gloves, the Bionic supposedly helps golfers regain club control and thus provides better accuracy.
