Country Antiques Show Features Unique Activities: • Over 50 dealers from across the US & Canada • Book-signing of “Vintage Cottages” by Molly Hyde English
For_Immediate_Release:

June 4, 2007 (Press Release) -- Sunday, June 10, 2007 from 10am to 4pm will mark the 22nd annual California Country Antiques & Folk Art Show to benefit the Los Altos History Museum. Spend the day at the Hillview Community Center (97 Hillview Ave) in Los Altos browsing and buying the finest country to formal furniture, folk art, textiles, pottery, and more. Presented by over 50 superb antique & folk art dealers from across the US and Canada. Admission is $9, drops to $6 at 11am, and museum members are free.

With a growing reputation for celebrity sightings, the antiques show is well attended by people from across the Bay Area, Southern California and Oregon. Hollywood stars and international rock stars have been spotted at the event, but this year, one is here as an antiques dealer. Actor and screenwriter Beverly Archer appeared on many television shows during her career, the most famous being Mama’s Family and Major Dad, and has also written episodes for Mama's Family and Alf. Today, she sells antiques, and is sweetly modest about her acting career.

Featured this year is Molly Hyde English, author of Camps and Cottages, who will be at the show signing her brand new (April 2007) book, Vintage Cottages.

Also new this year is a series of half-hour free museum quality workshops by professional staff and conservators on caring for your personal collections, from pewter or jewelry to photographs or textiles. “We want people at home to know how museums care for artifacts,” states Los Altos History Museum Collections Manager, Karen Kroslowitz, “so they can feel confident to clean, care and preserve their family valuables the right way, whether it’s a wedding gown, old photo, or antique jewelry.” The free afternoon workshops will occur at the museum garden patio, under the heritage oaks.

Founded by long-time Los Altos History Museum member, Bea Teer, and now managed by museum member, Tom Baker, this special event benefiting the museum is rated by Country Home Magazine as the #7 “Great Outdoor Show in America” – and this year’s promises to be the best ever. Country to formal furniture, folk art, textiles, pottery, Native American, architectural and garden elements, camp and cottage, toy, holiday items, things in original old paint, and much, much more are priced to meet everyone’s budget.

The show will start at 10 am and run to 4pm. Enjoy live American folk music and delicious summertime picnic foods for sale. The traditional $100 shopping spree drawing will be held at 2 pm on the luncheon lawn. Next door on the History Museum patio, artisans will demonstrate early American crafts; their completed works of art will be available for purchase. With all this, the Antiques Show will be truly a special event that shouldn’t be missed!
