FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) June 12, 2007 --
Hooded figures shadow boxing around the campus are set to become a common sight in the early mornings at Griffith University Nathan Campus, when The Boxing Shop unleashes their much awaited program “Old School Fighter Camp” on July 23. Campers are challenged to step into the role of a Title Fighter and think, train and compete like one, in this one of a kind program.
The 5.15am starts may not appeal to all, but ‘Rocky’ fans know that this is what it takes to get ready for a Title Fight. The Boxing Shop are calling out all those who want to experience first hand what it is like to work it like the old school Pro’s.
The program runs for 4 weeks and includes conditioning; skill development and an official weigh in as prelude to The Boxing Shop’s first Competition Sparring event.
Gareth Williams, the respected and highly knowledgeable head Coach of the Boxing Shop says “We get a lot of interest from everyday people who admire the dedication and discipline of a competitive Fighter and who are jumping at the opportunity to experience it for themselves. One of the bonuses of Fighter Camp is being able to train alongside others who are on the same path; it can be a very lonely journey when you are training alone.”
Williams training programs have become recognized as being an industry benchmark for quality boxing training programs. His group training programs are highly popular and his training attracts high profile personal clients looking for the edge on their fitness and health goals. Recently, Williams has sat alongside Brisbane Bronco’s coach Wayne Bennett and his elite performance training team to observe and learn their training techniques for keeping their team in peak physical shape.
Bringing this to his own experience as an elite athlete, Williams says “Our camp schedule follows traditional boxing training methods and the best of the new. I am living my dream in teaching others how to become a Fighter! Together we will set targets performance targets that can be achieved through hard work. This camp is about learning how to think, train and compete like a Champion. It won’t be easy but it will certainly be rewarding!”
Griffith University Nathan campus is the venue of choice for its excellent facilities, including the fully equipped Boxing Shop gym. Williams also says that “There are prerequisites for enrolling in Fighter Camp. The numbers have been limited to an even 16 and those people must be able to run 2.5km at the start of the program as well as have some beginner experience.
The Boxing Shop gym opened doors in February 2007 and has received much attention for their training programs, including the equivalent of Fighter Camp, (the ladies only) boxing training challenge “Butterfly Boxing”. Williams partner, Huia Hikaiti says “with the success of the ladies challenges, we had men letting us know that they were up for a challenge too!"
