June 12, 2007 (Press Release) --
Dallas, TX-- Defending the American Dream is important, but a group of business owners thinks military families should have an opportunity to live the American Dream as well. The “Heroes Partnership Program” offers business grants to military personnel and their spouses who would like to own their own home business.
In addition to paying all of the business start-up expenses, the Partnership Program matches military families with a personal mentor and business coach. Designed to help military families supplement, and eventually surpass, their military pay, the program’s founders say partnering with the military families is their way of saying “thank you.”
“Enlisted personnel with less than 2 years service are paid less than $1,500 a month,” says program co-founder, Robin van der Merwe. “Somehow, just saying ‘thanks for your sacrifices’ didn’t seem adequate.” Entrepreneurs themselves, van der Merwe and her husband, Henk, say they understand the freedom of owning a business and being able to work from home.
Two roadblocks to successful business ownership, however, are often the start-up expenses and lack of experience. To help military families overcome those issues, van der Merwe called upon fellow independent XanGoä distributors who agreed to help and the Heroes Partnership Program was formed.
The program now supports military personnel returning home from active duty, wounded soldiers, widows of military personnel, veterans, and the spouses of active military personnel,. Each is matched with an experienced independent XanGoä business owner who becomes their personal mentor and business coach. Independent XanGo distributors participating in the program pay all of the business start-up expenses on behalf of the military family partners.
“It’s a small way for us to give something back to those who have given so much for us,” says van der Merwe. “The idea behind teaching others how to earn life-changing income is to empower them to then go out and do something good in the world” she says. “This is one of the ways we accomplish just that.”
The mentorship program includes business training provided by industry experts like Daren Falter, author of “How to Select a Home-Based Business.” Falter, who has investigated and reviewed over 400 business opportunities during the last 10 years, helps new business owners understand the dynamics of a successful home business.
Other training includes such topics as writing a business plan, creating effective marketing and advertising campaigns, creating business budgets, understanding home business taxes and more. Business leaders throughout the country have volunteered to partner with military families and help them establish a successful home business.
