STARBUCKS AND AMERICAN AMP RECYCLING IN WALNUT, CA
Starbucks #6803 and American AMP,have teamed up to begin a recycling campaign that brings local schools together with Starbucks.

Walnut, CA June 12, 2007— Starbucks #6803 and American AMP, an advertising, marketing and promotions company, have teamed up to begin a recycling campaign that brings local schools together with local Starbucks stores. American AMP, an up-and- coming company, played a major role in the success of such movie blockbusters as Disney/Walden Media’s The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ, and Universal’s United 93. In the music industry, American AMP has been responsible for promoting and marketing hundreds of major and independent label recording artists from various genres, including three Bob Marley CD’s and three Marley box-sets for JAD Records International.
American AMP president Rudy Chavarria Jr came up with the Starbucks recycling idea after years of researching Starbucks as a company and how to extend Starbucks’ reputation as an environmental-friendly corporation. “I couldn’t think of a better approach than to get our future involved, our kids of today,” Chavarria commented. “I was sitting in Starbucks one afternoon, and as the employees emptied the trash, it hit me—a recycling canister with artwork from the school kids of Walnut. Recycling, to tomorrow’s generation, will be what owning a microwave oven was to mine—a way of life.”
The idea is simple yet requires hours of planning and execution. Not all locations can recycle because not all shopping centers offer their tenants a recycling trash bin. “I had to meet with the center’s management company and discuss how to get a recycling bin to make this all happen,” Rudy remarked. As far as the students’ involvement, Rudy approached local elementary school Neil Armstrong Elementary and retained Ms. Blendalyn Rivera’s 4th-grade class to produce the artwork for the first recycling canister, which is currently in use at store #6803 on the corner of Valley Blvd. and Grand Ave. “My students were extremely excited about participating and having their artwork on display,” commented Ms. Rivera. Starbucks store manager Audrey Ardelo added, “We’ve had great support and praise from customers and community leaders.”
On Friday June 22, 2007 American AMP and Starbucks store #6803 will host the first awards ceremony in recognition of the selected class and unveil the artwork to be placed on the recycling canister at store location …… The artwork was created by the honors art class of South Point Middle School in Walnut, CA.
