June 15, 2007

2007 Zombie Weekend being planned in Pittsburgh during Halloween weekend. Festivities include a Zombie Fest convention, Zombie Ball and Zombie Walk attempt to break its own world record.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) June 15, 2007 -- Guinness World Records™ has certified that the world’s largest zombie gathering took place at Monroeville Mall in October 2006. The world record zombie walk, sponsored by The It’s Alive Show, drew 894 official participants and provided non-perishable food donations for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

“Pittsburgh has long been known as the zombie capital of the world; now it’s official”, says walk organizer Mark Menold, producer and host (as Professor Emcee Square) of The It’s Alive Show, a weekly local television show featuring horror movies with a cast performing skits and music. Menold hopes that “we can encourage more zombie world record attempts across the country which ultimately will benefit their local charities.”

As for the record, Menold hopes to top it later in the year. The show is planning another walk in late October and expects to break its own record. The Zombie Walk will be part of a Zombie Weekend to be held at the Monroeville Expo Mart on October 27-28, 2007. The Zombie Fest Will be two full days of movies, music, merchandise, and pure monster madness! The weekend includes:

•Zombie Fest, an unconventional convention featuring a vendor exhibit area, live demonstrations and seminars, film and video presentations, and more. Also highlighting works of local and national artists with emphasis on horror and the macabre. Runs Saturday & Sunday.
•Zombie Ball, the zombie party of the century featuring live music from DEATHMOBILE and dancing on Saturday night; and
•Zombie Walk at the Monroeville Mall on Sunday morning

All events will feature activities benefiting local charities such as the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. Projected attendance for the weekend’s festivities is expected to exceed 3,000 people of all ages.

The weekend’s festivities are being planned through a grassroots effort of It’s Alive Show fans who are donating their professional time and effort. The “street team” has led such activities as shopping field trips to and fan meet-ups at the show’s sponsors’ locations.

Classic horror movies are presented by a talented cast performing comedy and live music. The show is aired Saturday nights at 10:00 PM on WBGN-TV, a local station reaching over one million households, and 24/7 via the show’s web site.
