June 20, 2007 (Press Release) --
Do you dread the feeling of autumn settling in? Are you bracing yourself for cold and wet conditions? Are you wishing for longer summers and hankering for a bit more warmth and sunshine? Peter Sommer Travels has the perfect recipe for you! A luxury cruise on a Turkish gulet, enjoying the warm waters, the abundant fresh produce and the beautiful landscape and archaeology. As is that was not enough, we are offering a 10% discount on this trip of a lifetime!
“We have just a few places left on this exceptional holiday”, says Peter Sommer, director of Peter Sommer Travels. “It’s a great opportunity to discover some of the most enchanting ancient wonders of the world. It’s a real archaeological adventure. From mighty theatres to churches floored with mosaics, each site is part of a historical puzzle that reveals a remarkable story of human civilisation.”
This is an archaeological cruise that interweaves the magic of the Turkish coast with two awe inspiring Greek islands. We set sail on our gulet and head east to Göçek from our start point, Bodrum, ancient Halicarnassus, site of the Mausoleum, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.
Cruising aboard the gulet Almira our ever changing horizon is a wild, remote and mountainous landscape cut into long peninsulas, deep inlets, secluded coves and pine-fringed fjords. Exploring this unspoilt coast, we rediscover the ancient realm of Mausolus, ruler of Caria, 2400 years ago.
With such rich and strategically vital cities, the area was a crossroads of civilisations. Alexander the Great liberated it from Persia, Rhodes sought to carve it into an empire, and the legacy of Crusader castles still speaks of the epic battle between Christianity and Islam.
ABOUT THE GULET: The Almira is one of the best equipped yachts of its kind. 25m long, she has eight cabins, with fully appointed en-suite bathrooms. Hand built in pine and mahogany; it follows a design developed for these waters in Byzantine times. The decks and saloon provide plenty of room to read, relax, sunbathe, or just gaze at the horizon and daydream.
