Prague - A dead swan found by a lake in the south-eastern Czech Republic has been confirmed to carry the H5N1 bird flu strain, which is deadly to humans, Jaroslav Salava of the State Veterinary Administration told reporters Thursday.”
“28/06/2007 - The deadly form of bird flu is spreading again in Europe, with Germany and the Czech Republic both reporting outbreaks of H5N1. The outbreaks are occuring despite the EU's stepped up efforts to try and prevent the virus from affecting the bloc's poultry supply.”
Headlines like those above are appearing on our screens and in our newspapers nearly every day, yet most of us think that it will never come near OUR place.
It has taken months to find the information needed to find out the best ways of protection. The governments are doing little to assist people to prepare themselves if a severe pandemic occurs. Thousands of lives could be lost needlessly simply because the public is not being adequately informed. .

The H5N1 Bird Flu virus was now spreading in relatively poor and underdeveloped countries with thousands of backyard chicken farms. There was little chance of eliminating the H5N1 bird flu virus completely from South East Asia. This logically suggested that a pandemic could occur. Also each past pandemic originated from a bird flu virus and this H5N1 bird flu virus was still rapidly evolving towards pandemic like characteristics.
