Southern Sun officially launched The InterContinental Sandton Towers Johannesburg on July 1, 2007 as an individual InterContinental branded hotel.

Southern Sun officially launched The InterContinental Sandton Towers Johannesburg on July 1, 2007 as an individual InterContinental branded hotel. This hotel along with the sumptuous new look Sandton Sun and the picturesque Palazzo Montecasino form part of an extensive re-branding and modernisation programme that commenced in 2005, with the ultimate aim of owning brands rather than managing them and investing significantly in modernisation in line with consumer trends.
“Southern Sun is focused on meeting the demands of its current and prospective clients and through regular guest surveys and liaison with our partners have identified the areas where improvement and streamlining was required”, comments Southern Sun’s Managing Director, Helder Pereira.
“Southern Sun’s focus is to keep abreast of developments within the global and domestic tourism and hospitality industries and utilise this knowledge to the benefit of our clientele”, adds Pereira. “Through the conversion of these landmark names we have reached a pinnacle in our re-branding exercise and we are confident that the innovation behind the process will attract more and more satisfied guests, ensuring a continued faith in our brand.”
The InterContinental Sandton Towers Johannesburg, previously the InterContinental Sandton Sun & Towers, joins the Southern Sun Deluxe portfolio of hotels which now consists of: The Beverly Hills Hotel, The Sandton Sun, The Palazzo Montecasino and The two InterContinental hotels: The InterContinental Sandton Towers Johannesburg and The InterContinental Airport Sun.
All other Southern Sun hotels serve different market segments to the Deluxe portfolio; such as the Southern Sun Hotels & Resorts within the Premier category, the new SunSquare hotel at Montecasino positioned as a trendy, hip new hotel for the upper tier of economy traveller, Garden Court hotels within the Economy segment, and StayEasy for the more value conscious traveller.
