Punxsutawney Phil gets a tribute song from Sunny James the country gal from Pennsylvania. The tribute song for groundhog day entitled Punxsutawney Phil and tells the story of events on Groundhog day., Sunny James will
release a two-song CD today to commemorate Groundhog Day.
The CD includes a new tune, the ground hog song "Punxsutawney Phil", and a previously
released song, "Hills of Pennsylvania."
An area native, Sunny James - whose real name is Beth Schmader - will
perform 40-minute long concerts in the Oil City School District
elementary schools today featuring the new song.
James said she'll be at Hasson Heights, Seventh Street, Smedley and
Oakland elementary schools. "The presentation will be a music assembly
on thinking spring. ... I'll be performing those two songs and some
songs from my upcoming CD," she said.

During her 16-year singing career, James has performed at fairs,
festivals, schools and events for all occasions throughout Pennsylvania,
Ohio and New York.
"A theme that I try to leave with the kids is to do the best they
can, learn all they can because that's important. Music is a wonderfully
universal language that touches people," said James.
In addition to the school tours, James will be featured on Erie's
WJET newscast between 5 and 6:30 p.m. today.
"I'm not sure of the time, but I'm to be there by 5 p.m. At sometime
during their evening news, they go live and I'll be performing then.
They are doing a spoof on those two songs," said James.
Her stage name, Sunny James, comes from the nickname "Sunny" given to
her by her husband, Dale. James is her father's first name, the late
James A. Tarleton, who inspired her and taught her to play guitar at the
age of 8.
