July 7, 2007 was certainly a big day for America -- Vegas casinos and wedding planners and venues trumpeted the day as the luckiest day of the century. There were thousands of weddings, and casinos staged all sorts of promotions to draw players (gamblers) to their establishments.
"Casino industry insiders tell me," says Alan Mendelson of Creative Services Advertising in Los Angeles, "that 7/7/07 was indeed lucky for them -- their casinos were packed with players who hoped to crack open the vaults of Vegas."
The last we heard, the casino vaults remain uncracked, says Mendelson who provides public relations and marketing advice for clients of CSA.
So what's next? How about a big deal over August 8, 2008 -- which is 08/08/08, suggests Mendelson.
Here is what Mendelson is saying: August 8, 2008 might be even a bigger deal than July 7, 2007 because the number 8 signifies prosperity among many Asian cultures, especially the Chinese. The number "8" has the sound that is similar to the word for "sudden fortune." The casino industry in Vegas, particularly, tries to attract Asian gamers from around the world, and this might be the perfect promotion for the casino industry. And don't forget how many U.S. gaming companies are now investing in the casino industry in Macau.
08/08/08 happens to fall on a Friday and that will certainly help the casinos make a big deal over prosperity-8 promotions.
"As one high roller of Chinese ancestry told me," says Mendelson, "8-8-08 is our 7-7-07."
